Over the last 18 years we have worked with all three levels of government and the private sector to deliver carefully researched, evidence-based advice across a variety of transport issues.

Green Travel Plans
We help developers gain approval for projects that seek to reduce the amount of car parking provided. These plans are grounded in Travel Demand Management strategies, all designed to reduce the need for unnecessary car use.

Commissioned by the South Australian Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure, this project evaluated the impact of adult cycling proficiency courses.

This seminar tackled the issue of how technology is changing the way we travel and the implications for policy making. Keynote speakers included Professor Allan Fels AO, Uber and Professor Graham Currie.

Sustainable transport challenges in Melbourne
The Institute for Sensible Transport were engaged by a group of Melbourne metropolitan councils to analyse data on city transport patterns and trends to produce an authoritative set of recommendations focused on improving the sustainability of Melbourne’s transport system.

Campus bike share: Risk analysis and optimisation assessment
In 2015 Monash University became the first Australian university to launch a fully IT based bike share program. The Institute for Sensible Transport conducted a pre-launch risk assessment to help guard against the low usage figures that other Australian bike share programs have experienced in recent years.

Integrating cycling and public transport
The Institute for Sensible Transport was engaged by the Victorian Department of Transport to conduct a technical evaluation of the carriage of bicycles on regional trains and coaches (buses). This study provided the Department with practical ways to accommodate the increasing demand from the public to integrate cycling with public transport.
