We were engaged by Monash University, Melbourne to investigate mechanisms to boost levels of car share use by the growing residential student population.

Monash University, Clayton is located in a car dependent area of Melbourne. The student population residing on campus has been growing rapidly and this may provide an opportunity to create a well used car share service on campus.

The affordability and availability of private use car parking on campus has made it difficult for car share to thrive and this report delivered a set of recommendations to make car share a more viable, attractive alternative to private car ownership for those residing on campus.

Overall, this investigation found that Monash Clayton Campus has the potential to significantly increase car share possibilities, but these possibilities are dependent on the creation of a compelling value proposition to potential users. This includes how easily car share can compete with private car use arrangements.
